Woman accused of taking US$40,000 for car purchase on fraud rap
A woman is now facing fraud charges after she was accused of taking US$40,000 to purchase a vehicle on behalf of a man and not delivering on her promise.
The woman, Andrea Johnson, was brought before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last Thursday where she was made to answer to the charges of fraudulent conversion and non-delivery of goods or services on the contracted date.
According to the Crown, in February 2022, the complainant went into an agreement with Johnson to purchase a vehicle. However, after transferring the money to the complainant’s bank account, when the time came for the vehicle to be delivered, this was not done.
The court was told that all attempts by the complainant to get the vehicle or a refund were futile.
The make and model of the vehicle the complainant intended to purchase was not made known in court.
Nevertheless, the accused woman did not register a plea that day in court. Instead, the presiding judge, Lori-Ann Cole-Montague ordered that disclosure be made to the defence team on April 26, out of court.
Johnson was ordered to return to court on May 1, when the case will again be mentioned.
