Cedricka Williams named NJCAA women’s athlete of the week
Jamaica’s national junior record holder in the women’s discus throw, Cedricka Williams, was named the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Division 1 women’s athlete of the week after her record-breaking performance for Barton County College last
weekend.
The former Holmwood Technical Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Athletics Championships and Penn Relays High School champion broke the Barton County College school record after winning the event at the Emporia State Relays with 55.39m. The effort is third best on the all-time NJCAA list.
The NJCAA record is 56.51m.
Williams’ throw on the weekend shattered the previous Barton County record 53.15m set in 2019 by compatriot Marie Forbes. Williams had two throws over the 55.00m mark during the competition.
Williams, who set the Jamaican junior record 57.84m while winning the Class One gold medal at the 2023 ISSA Championships, had fouled out a week earlier in her first collegiate outdoor track and field meet at the Cowley Mark A Phillips Tiger Invitational in Kansas.
