Reggae artiste Ghandi has been through a lot in his life, yet he says he has a lot for which he is thankful.

Two years ago, his daughter Velonique Bowen emerged the winner in the 2022 Miss Jamaica Festival Queen competition.

“When she mentioned [entering the competition] to me, I said, ‘Go ahead, because nothing is impossible.’ I was at her crowning as Miss Kingston and St Andrew Festival Queen at the Little Theatre, and I came back to Jamaica to be at the finals. I knew that she was going to win, so I would feel guilty not being here at the major one,” Ghandi recalled.

He recently released the inspirational song Believe, which he is quite upbeat about, as the song has found favour on radio.

On the song, which is produced by Combustion Recordz, Ghandi draws on personal experiences.

“The inspiration for the song came from personal, present and past experiences, as well as things I’ve seen other people experience. This song is very relatable to me because mankind is like unexpected turbulence. Basically… to expect anything from them at any given time and you won’t be surprised.”

This is the first time that Ras Ghandi has worked with Combustion Recordz.

“Yes, it’s my very first time working with them, and I am happy to be a part of such an amazing project, that reminds the world that good music is still being made,” Ras Ghandi disclosed.

He says support from radio DJs in Jamaica, South Florida as well as other areas in the US and the Caribbean.” Ghandi reasoned.

Born Duaine Bowen, he was raised in a Christian home by his grandmother. He studied at Jonathan Grant and Dinthill Technical high schools. With a passion for football, Ghandi represented his school at several football competitions, including DaCosta Cup.

Ghandi was inspired to pursue the natural gift he had for music. He would release his creative energies through music by performing at local community concerts. It soon became apparent that he was an innovator and way ahead of his contemporaries.

Ghandi’s outstanding songwriting skills have allowed him to write for artistes such as Yellow Man, Ninja Man, Bounty Killer, Spice, Macka Diamond, Anthony B, Johnny P, and Jah Bouks.

In 2004 he delivered one of his most famous recordings, No More Bloodshed. His other message-laced songs include Message to Mama, Nine Months Pregnant, Ital Stew, and Naw Lef Out Di Girls Dem.
