4.20 Cooyah party brings the vibes
Saturday’s staging of the 4.20 Cooyah anniversary party was the perfect mixture of music, art, and fashion.
Held at Kaya Herb House, 82 Lady Musgrave Road, patrons seized the opportunity to party the night away and indulge in all the entertainment offerings by Bambino, Renaissance, Steamaz, Iset, Anash, and more.
Naturally, the smell of marijuana filled the air, in keeping with the 4/20 tradition and the wide array of cannabis products offered by Kaya helped to commemorate the day.
To add to the night’s flair, artists Carl Dennis and Simone G had original pieces on display.
In speaking to the Jamaica Observer patrons were ecstatic about the event.
“I’m a huge fan of anything that is Jamaican-owned or that represents our authentic culture, so I’ve purchased a few pieces of theirs [Cooyah]. I’m glad [that] they’re still around and I’ll definitely continue to endorse them,” one patron, who noted that he travelled from St Catherine, said.
Cooyah was created by Homer Blair in 1987. He was the creative director for reggae legend Peter Tosh.
The brand offers polos, swimwear, denim and bomber jackets, hats, handbags, and other accessories. Cooyah is also the official distributor for reggae artiste Anthony B’s merchandise.
Another patron disclosed that the anniversary party was a combination of some of her favourite pastimes.
“I actually celebrate 4/20 with my friends each year, and then I heard that they were having this party that includes art, live DJs, and lots of vibes, so I’m happy to be here. It’s not too crowded or hectic. I don’t have any complaints,” she told the Observer.
