Rvssian scores another international hit, offers advice to local industry players

Music producer Tarik ‘Rvssian’ Johnston, who hit paydirt recently with the Dutty Money and Payment Plan rhythm projects, has been making inroads on the international scene, producing songs for several reggaeton and Latin artistes as well as Italian acts.

He told Observer Online on Tuesday that “networking is the key” for Jamaican artistes and producers to tap into other markets.

Rvssian has produced hits for Reggaeton and Latin acts including Farruko, Rauw Alejandro, Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Nicky Jam among others. Also among his credentials are songs by Italian acts such as Sfera Ebbasta and Pablo Kenedi.

Asked whether he intended to pursue opportunities in other musical genres, Rvssian said “Yes, I want to release music for and in other genres. No limits.”

The producer has plans to release another banging dancehall project but he remains tight-lipped about the details.

“Can’t tell you. KFC doesn’t give out their recipe,” he joked.

And who’s on his wish list of international acts to collaborate with?

“Taylor Swift,” he stated.

In the meantime, Rvssian has scored another hit on the global music charts. Santa, which features Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro and Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, is #15 on the Global Spotify chart. It becomes his sixth entry on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, bolting from #40 to #13. On Billboard’s Latin Streaming Songs chart, Santa debuts at #16.

Santa also makes moves on several other charts. On Billboard’s Global Excluding US chart, it enters at #36 and #61 on the Global 200 chart.

Santa debuts at #4, #1, #21, #6, #11, #22 and #3 in Peru, Spain, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico and Ecuador respectively.
