Body of 80-y-o woman found with hands, feet bound after house fire
ST ANN, Jamaica – An elderly woman was found dead following a house fire in Bamboo, St Ann on Tuesday evening in what the police theorise was the work of arsonists.
The deceased has been identified as 80-year-old Sylvia Barrett, a farmer and vendor of Spring Garden, Bamboo.
Police say a relative of Barrett saw fire coming from a section of the dwelling and raised an alarm. The Fire Brigade was also alerted.
According to police reports, Barrett’s relatives and neighbours worked to extinguish the blaze before the fire brigade arrived. Law enforcers confirmed that when they and members of the Fire Brigade arrived on scene, the fire was under control and a subsequent cooling down operation was carried out by the brigade.
Barrett’s body was later found partially naked with her hands and feet bound with what appeared to be small burn marks.
Investigations are ongoing.
