‘Gazaman’ slapped with murder, firearm charges
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man who is accused of fatally shooting a businessman in his community is set to answer to a murder charge and several breaches of the Firearms Act when he appears in court.
The accused has been identified as 27-year-old Fredrick Mattis, otherwise called ‘Gazaman’, a tiler of Victoria Street, Denham Town in Kingston 14.
Mattis is charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and using a firearm to commit a felony.
The charges stem from a February 9 incident in which 44-year-old Kirk Facey, otherwise called ‘Kirk’, an entrepreneur of Market Street, Kingston 14 was gunned down in his community.
According to police reports, about 8:25 pm, Facey was in his shop when Mattis allegedly attacked him and opened gunfire at him. Facey was assisted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the police said.
Following investigations, Mattis was taken into custody and charged on Tuesday, April 30.
His court date is being finalised.
