JTA President praises educators’ unwavering commitment in Teachers’ Day message
During his Teachers’ Day message on Wednesday, Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) President Leighton Johnson commended educators for their commitment and outlined the association’s plans to address some of the issues within the profession.
The president released a video praising teachers for their steadfast commitment and contributions to society within an education system that, according to the JTA president, still requires improvements.
“Colleagues, today I extend sincere gratitude and express admiration to the dedicated teachers across the length and breadth of this island. Your unwavering commitment to nurturing the minds of our future generations is truly commendable and your contributions to our society are immeasurable,” Johnson said.
“As we celebrate your invaluable role in shaping the future of our nation, it is crucial to acknowledge the challenges you face in this our noble profession. The Jamaica Teachers’ Association will continue to advocate for improved salaries, benefits and the conditions of service,” he added.
He proceeded to emphasise the significance of fair compensation and supportive work environments for educators to effectively fulfil their duties, thereby ensuring the ongoing excellence of an education system upheld by teachers.
“The Jamaica Teachers’ Association remains steadfast in its commitment to representing your interest and championing your rights. We will engage the relevant stakeholders to advocate for policies that prioritise the welfare of teachers and enhance the quality of the Jamaican education system,” the JTA president said.
Johnson additionally lauded the teachers for their resilience and dedication, describing them as inspirations, and urged them to take pride in their noble profession, given the profound impact teachers have on the lives of the countless students who pass through their classes.
“Your dedication, resilience and passion for teaching inspires us all. On this special day, I encourage you to take pride in our profession. You have had a profound impact on countless lives. You have transformed homes, communities and with our dedication and renewed purpose we will continue to transform our nation,” Johnson said.
“Your hard work has not gone unnoticed and I thank you for your unwavering dedication to excellence. Happy Teachers’ Day, let us continue to unite and serve,” he concluded.
