Season’s best for Jaydon Hibbert in triple jump win
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jaydon Hibbert produced a season’s best 17.57m (-1.3m/s) to win the men’s triple jump at Saturday’s inaugural Jamaica Athletics Invitational (JAI), a Continental Tour-Silver event, held at the National Stadium in Kingston.
In only his second meet of his first season as a professional, Hibbert attempted only three jumps as he moved up to second in the world behind Italy’s Andy Diaz Hernandez’s 17.61m.
Jordan Scott was second with 16.84m (-0.4m/s) and Obrien Wasome third with 16.62m (0.2m/s).
Two time World Championships silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts won the women’s triple jump with 14.50m (0.6m/s) on her season debut, beating American Jasmine Moore- 14.28m (0.5m/s) and Thea LaFond of Dominica who jumped 14.22m twice.
Traves Smikle won the men’s discus throw with 66.89m, ahead of Fedrick Dacres- 65.94m and American Brian Williams- 63.76m.
Raymond Richards won the men’s high jump with 2.24m, beating American Dontavious Hill- 2.20m while Christoff Bryan was third with 2.15m.
