JoJo Mac reaps success with new track

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Although Jamaican-born recording artiste JoJo Mac is based in the United States, she has managed to create waves for herself in other demographics with the track Even If It Rains.

The single was in June 2023, however, the official music video made its debut on March 26 this year.

Described as a song about overcoming adversities through prayer, it is a featured track on her latest album Art and Life.

“The musical style of this song is a fusion. The beat is slowed down dancehall, while the vocals are lover’s rock/ hip hop with some synth pop, as well,” the singer told Observer Online.

Even If It Rains was co-produced by the singer along with Winston “Kingston 13” Solomon for her record label, Fire N Ice Records.

Since its release, the track has been getting quite a bit of positive feedback from radio DJs and music lovers, highlighting its potential to reach ears in all corners of the world.

“It’s getting a lot of airplay at this time, much more than when it was initially released. We’re hearing much more of it now, that’s one of the reasons we decided on a video that was released in March, 2024. People are being drawn to it. The response is good,” JoJo Mac said.

“I’m hoping that it will eventually reach the ears of the broader audience as it is a song that everyone can relate to, given that everyone has been through something in their lives. It is a song that denotes hope,” the singer expressed.

Born in Clarendon, JoJo Mac is a multifaceted singer, songwriter, producer, author and on-air personality with many achievements under her belt. Having achieved success as a former member of the Jamaican group Black Uhuru, she has built a name for herself as a soloist, sitting high on the iTunes All-Genre Chart with number two and number four songs simultaneously, with the songs Stormy Night (a Roland Burrell cover) and Dread Out Deh (a Joy White cover), respectively.

Her other releases include Keep The Devil Away, I’m Not Crazy, Living My Life and No Games, JoJo Mac is currently aiming to introduce herself to Jamaica officially, leading listeners to the plethora of music in her catalog.

“I will continue to be resolutely persistent. I will be releasing more videos from the album, as well as releasing some new singles along the way. Music is so embedded into the fabric of who I am that it’s a life journey for me,” she expressed, adding, “I think they should just go ahead and open the doors wide enough so I can get in, because I make absolutely awesome music with eternal shelf-life, inspiring and pleasant to the ear. I also think once they discover the essence of who JoJo Mac is they will likely gravitate to the offerings,” she said.

The singer hopes to collaborate with Beenie Man.
