Plie Academy mounts first youth gala
The Academy at Plie for the Arts will present its first gala performance on May 26 at Little Theatre.
The show, themed Human heART, will showcase much of the young talent that exist in Jamaica and confirms that, with proper nurturing and honing, the sky is the limit for these talented children.
On display will be young performers in contemporary dance, choral and solo singing, as well as drama, all telling a soul-stirring story about the human heart and the transformative power of the arts.
The cast is made up of children between the ages 3-18 who are all excited about being on stage.
Plie’s founder and Artistic Director Marisa Benain is excited about the creative team that will bring the show to life. The team includes attorney-at-law and president of Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) Ewan Simpson, as musical director, Michael Holgate as creative director, Gregory Simms as production manager, Roger Hinds as executive producer, Keneea Linton-George as designer, along with Matthew Gillespie as production coordinator.
The activities takes on added significance as the nation recognises May as Child Month.
“This is the start of a new tentacle to Plie. In a year or two, we intend to make Plie’s Children’s Gala a calendar event with talented children from all over the world participating,” shared Benain.
