Corinaldi Avenue, Barracks Road to meet in VM U-13 final
TUCKER, St James — Arch-rivals Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Barracks Road Primary are to meet in the St James Football Association/Victoria Mutual Foundation Under-13 football final, after exciting wins in Friday’s semi-finals at WesPow Park in Tucker, St James.
Corinaldi Avenue Primary, who are seeking to complete back-to-back unbeaten seasons, came from a goal down to beat Flankers Primary 2-1 in the first game.
Barracks Road Primary shook off a tough challenge from Granville Primary to win 3-1 with a second-half double from Shamary Blake.
The schools that are separated by a wall are scheduled to clash in the final set for Friday, June 7, also at WesPow Park.
Corinaldi Avenue Primary, who had conceded their first goal of the season in their quarter-final against Catherine Hall Primary, trailed for the first time this season when Chadwaine Savage gave Flankers Primary the lead in the seventh minute.
Jayden Smith levelled the scores in the 20th minute and Donovan Carey scored the winner in the first minute of the second half to book back-to-back finals for Corinaldi Avenue.
Granville Primary, who were the only team in the final four that had not contested the semi-final last season, dominated the first half against Barracks Road but failed to get through the defence.
Blake, who had scored in Barracks Road Primary’s quarter-final game against Chetwood Primary on Monday, gave them the lead in the 32nd minute. Rushane Martin, who came on at the start of the second half, made it 2-0 in the 39th minute.
Omarion Williams pulled a goal back for Granville Primary in the 54th minute but Blake completed his brace in the 60th to hand Barracks Road a comfortable victory.
