Reggae Boyz lead Dom Rep in WCQ second round game
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz led the Dominican Republic 1-0 at half time in their Concacaf World Cup second round Group E game at the National Stadium.
France-based Shamar Nicholson scored for Jamaica finishing off a well-executed fast break in the 16th minute.
Bobby Reid played a ball to Renaldo Cephas on the left wing and the Turkish-based winger dribbled into the Dominican Republic area, drawing two defenders to himself before playing the ball into the centre of the area where Nicholson gave goalkeeper Miguel Lloyd no chance with a low hard shot.
Reid just missed adding a second goals later in the half but his free-kick from about 23 yards was just wide of the near right post.
The Jamaican players and fans thought the hosts should have been awarded a penalty in time added when Cephas was brought down just inside the Dom Rep penalty box but the referee waived off the calls.
