Captain Sparrow, Supremasi showdown in Mr Lover Lover Trophy
The stage is set for the Mr Lover Lover Trophy, and former three-time champion trainer Anthony Nunes is poised to dominate the race with his dynamic duo, Captain Sparrow and Supremasi.
These two talented colts are the top contenders in this Restricted Allowance II race, which features native-bred three-year-olds non-winners of two races and imported three-year-olds and upward maidens vying for a share of the $1.1-million purse.
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at each runner and their chances of winning this race.
1. CHESNEY (USA): (3 ch f by Solomini – El Coyote) – This American-bred filly is gradually finding her stride. After a promising fourth-place finish behind California Crown on May 19 over seven furlongs,
Chesney is poised to make her mark in this race. With her improvement curve pointing upwards, she’s a strong contender to hit the frame.
2. BRENDA BOY: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Delightful Brenda) – A winner on last who is going to find repeating not possible.
3. LADY LAUREN: (3 b f by Deputy Glitter – Anna) – Has done nothing impressive since her maiden win on January 20.
Lady Lauren is not expected to figure here.
4. UNRULY DON: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Lady Mandi) – Has no chance of winning.
5. CAPTAIN SPARROW: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Rackam’s Mistress) – This talented colt has made a remarkable transformation since his maiden win on March 30 over 7 furlongs. With a fourth-place finish in the Prince Consort Stakes (7 furlongs) and a close second in The Kingston (7 ½ furlongs), both behind Intrestntimesahead, Captain Sparrow has proven his mettle. After a brief setback that forced him to miss the Jamaica 2000 Guineas, he’s back and firing on all cylinders. With impressive workouts under his belt, Captain Sparrow is primed for victory and looks likely to claim the top spot in this race.
6. SUPREMASI: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Beware Baby) – This colt has finally found his stride. After a convincing win on May 25, where he dominated rivals by a length and a half over 6 ½ furlongs in a swift 1:22.1, Supremasi is ready to take on the big guns. Bred to excel over longer distances, he’ll have no problem handling tomorrow’s journey. With his class and talent, Supremasi is a strong contender to repeat his winning ways, but he’ll need to dig deep to outshine his stablemate Captain Sparrow in a thrilling showdown.
7. BUTTERCUP: (3 b f by Conquest Cherimash – Shahar) – Is going to be left behind in this one.
8. J SPIETH: (3 gr c by Spieth – Alice and Trixie) – Good sort but seems to lack stamina.
J Spieth finished seventh by 17 lengths in the Jamaica 2000 Guineas over one mile on June 2.
J Spieth is expected to do well here. Note: Blinkers off; tongue-tie off.
