PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — An early morning earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 rattled the capitals of Trinidad and Tobago on Monday but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) said that the quake occurred at 6:56 am (local time)  at latitude: 11.18N longitude: 61.60W and at a depth of 19 kilometres.

The quake was felt  58 kilometres north of the capital Port of Spain, 69 kilometres north west of Arima, east of Port of Spain and 95 kilometres west of Scarborough, the capital of the sister isle of Tobago.

The quake occurred one day after 3.5 magnitude tremor rattled Antigua and Barbuda, the French island of Guadeloupe, the British overseas territory of Montserrat and six days after a 4.1 magnitude quake was felt in the nearby cities of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, and St George’s Grenada.

There were no reports of injuries or damage in these islands.
