Lewis shows champion class with four-timer
REYAN Lewis, the defending champion jockey, put on a remarkable display of skill and strategy on Saturday, winning four races at the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.
The highlight of his impressive performance came when he piloted the Jason DaCosta-conditioned I Am Fred to a resounding victory in the $175-million Supreme Ventures 23rd Anniversary Trophy feature race.
I Am Fred, a six-year-old American-bred bay colt, led the race from start to finish, winning the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest by an impressive eight and a half lengths in a time of 1:05.2 (23.3 x 47.0 x 59.0).
I Am Fred won ahead of stablemate Is That A Fact (Josue Osorio) and
Mahogany (Raddesh Roman).
The colt’s dominant performance was a testament to Lewis’s exceptional riding skills and his ability to get the best out of his mounts.
Lewis’s other wins came aboard Riches to Rags in the third race for many-time champion trainer Philip Feanny; Money Miser in the fourth race for breeder, owner, and trainer Fitzroy Glispie; and Affair in the ninth race for trainer Gary Subratie.
Trainers Feanny, Subratie, and Carl Anderson saddled two winners each on the day.
In addition to Riches to Rages, Feanny had Magnificent Force (Raddesh Roman) winning the second race. Subratie saddled Justin Bigtime (Raddesh Roman) in the 10th and final event, to add to
Affair winning the previous race.
Anderson’s winners were Emperorofthecats (Richard Henry) in the fifth race and Super Alex (Aaron Chatrie) in the seventh race.
Racing continues today with a nine-race card, with the first post at 12:30 p.m.
