Roy Jones Jr announces death of son
Legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr has announced that his son, DeAndre died by suicide over the weekend.
According to an article from the New York Post, Jones Jr, 55, posted the news to his social media pages on Monday.
“Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his life on Saturday,” Jones Jr shared in his post.
“I’m so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family. I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and God should be the one to take it away,” the statement continued.
Jones Jr went on to thank his fans for their continued support and urged that they respect the family’s privacy as they “process this loss.”
Roy Jones Jr held a number of championships across several weight classes during the height of his career.
