It’s Always Been You
Introducing Mr and Mrs Taje Guy (Photos: Miguel Gayle)

It’s Always Been You

Tuesday Style Vows (TSV) introduces Mijan Reid and Taje Guy who exchanged wedding vows at the Craigbank Estate, St Andrew, on Saturday November 3, 2023.

Their journey to the altar commenced in 2005 and although they both have varying recollections of the initial moment, Taje recalls how he used decorated stickers on a birthday card to profess his love and of his initial proposal at prom.

Time passed and interactions were few and far between. Mijan enrolled at the Edna Manley College and Taje joined the Jamaica Defence Force. They would reconnect years later as friends. In fact at a time when Taje was facing challenges, Mijan became his prayer warrior and confidante. Their deep bond shifted to mutual attraction and cemented the connection they’d had for all those years.

With regular date nights at the Palisadoes strip, there was little surprise that their engagement shoot took place there.

The proposal

February 2023, Taje plotted with Mijan’s friends and family to plan and prepare for the proposal. Mijan was of the impression that she was just attending an all-girls’ Valentine’s Day picnic. What she discovered were signs held aloft by those present beseeching her to “Just say yes!” with Taje down on one knee ready to ask the life-changing question.

The ceremony

Officiated by Reverend Orton Deans and in a “Love in the Vineyard” setting courtesy of Zamar Creations, Mijan commenced her walk up the aisle in a customised trumpet-style body gown, curated by Keisha Allen of House of Clay. Her bridegroom Taje, meanwhile, stood dapper in the army’s #1 Red Dress Suit.

The reception

With no formal reception due to inclement weather, the couple signalled the DJ to play some music and enjoyed their first dance as husband and wife in the rain to Dancing by Elevation Worship.

The incessant downpour did little to dampen the enthusiasm of all gathered. Indeed, the bridegroom’s comrades in arms ensured that the age-old army tradition of drinking “the brew” was initiated and followed to the T. What followed next was a complete drenching! It was already raining, so why not throw the groom in the pool? The wedding guests chanted “Trash that dress!” and Mijan took a leap into the pool to join her husband.

The newly-weds honeymooned at Strawberry Fields Together, Robin’s Bay, St Mary, before heading to the Catalonia Hotel in the Dominican Republic.
