KINGSTON, Jamaica — Information Minister, Dr Dana Morris Dixon says Prime Minister Andrew Holness is likely to address the nation Tuesday as the Government intensifies its move to prepare Jamaicans for the impact of Hurricane Beryl.

Morris Dixon said the Government takes note of the latest update from the Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service) that Beryl remains a significant threat and is approaching Jamaica.

On Monday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness called a series of state agencies to Jamaica House for a briefing and to finalise plans ahead of Beryl’s arrival.

According to Morris Dixon, Holness will continue dialogue with agencies on Tuesday.

“The prime minister will also have dialogue with elected representatives about their role in the preparedness and response effort. It’s likely that Prime Minister Holness will also address the nation during the course of today,” Morris Dixon disclosed.

The exact timing of the prime minister’s address is reportedly being finalised.

In the meantime, the information minister is urging Jamaicans to finalise plans Tuesday morning to prepare for Beryl.

“We cannot stress this enough, those in low-lying and flood prone areas, We know that leaving property behind can present a quandary, but it’s better to observe the recommendation to evacuate and preserve your life by accessing one of the hundreds of shelters which are being activated across the island,” Minister Morris Dixon said.

She added that it is important for Jamaicans to remain calm as the island prepares for Beryl but also crucial to take the threat posed by the hurricane seriously.
