WATCH: Lit candle suspected cause of Porus house fire
MANCHESTER, Jamaica— Seven people including two children have been left homeless after fire gutted their home in Porus, Manchester on Wednesday morning.
The Mandeville fire station received a call at 12:59 am of a house fire in Porus. The board dwelling was destroyed.
Reports suggest that the fire was caused by a lit candle. Sections of Manchester remain without electricity following the passage of Hurricane Beryl last week.
On Tuesday, head of the Manchester Fire Department Superintendent Rohan Powell
urged citizens to be cautious in using generators and candles.
“…also we want to advise, because we have to be using alternative sources of lighting, candles and such alike, keep them away from anything that they may come in contact with and contribute to the spread of fire,” he said.
