Tommy Thompson hosts ‘Vybz Kartel Freedom Party’ at MECA

Popular funeral director Tommy ‘Brite Lite’ Thompson will be hosting the Vybz Kartel ‘Freedom Party’ at the MECA nightclub on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew on Tuesday night.

“You can be there and hear all the vibes about what will be happening in the Vybz Kartel camp. I will be hosting your night tonight, you got to be there, get there fast,” Tommy Thompson said in a video circulating on social media.

When contacted, Thompson would not say if he would be playing special Vybz Kartel dubplates for the occasion, or if Kartel himself would make an appearance.

“I can’t say nothing yet,” Thompson said, laughing.

Thompson was one of the first persons to greet Kartel upon his release from Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre last Wednesday and was photographed with the ‘World Boss’ outside the prison.

Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, was freed from prison after judges decided he should not face a retrial for murder.

He had been jailed in 2011, and later convicted in a long trial in 2014. That conviction was overturned by UK judges in the Privy Council in London in March 2024.

He had been accused of the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams in Jamaica but has always maintained his innocence.
