#ParisOlympics: Women shot putters miss out on finals
Both Jamaican shot put throwers Danielle Thomas-Dodd and Lloydricia Cameron just failed to advance to the finals of their event in Thursday’s morning session of the Olympic Games at Stade de France in Paris.
On a day of upsets that saw only three women get over the automatic qualifying mark of 19.15m, the Jamaicans missed out by scant margins.
Many time national champion and World Championships medallist Thomas-Dodd failed for the third straight Olympic games to get past the qualifying round, finishing an agonising 13th place with a best of 18.12m, a scant .04m outside the top 12.
Cameron, in her second Olympics, was one place back in 14th place with a season’s best 18.02m.
Only Canada’s Sarah Mitton- 19.77m, New Zealand’s Maddison-Lee Wesche-19.25m and Germany’s Yemisi Ogunyele-19.24m got over the automatic mark.
Two-time world champion Chase Jackson of the USA was among the casualties failing to advance.
