Spice looks into Mirror 25

‘Dancehall queen’ launches third album to celebrate career

As she officially launched her third studio album Mirror 25 at J Wray & Nephew Limited corporate offices in New Kingston on Thursday, Queen of Dancehall Spice was hailed for her incredible contribution to the genre.

Beenie Man, who surprised Spice on-stage, planted several kisses on her cheek before he began his congratulatory speech.

“Spice, you a my artiste… Thank you, darling, for being here for 25 years. You’re not going nowhere fi the next 25 years. I just want to tell you, thank you for all the great things that you have done for dancehall music. Without me, you would’ve still been here [and] without everybody, you would’ve still been here, because you love dancehall music,” Beenie Man said, adding that he popped in to “give Spice her flowers” in-between a studio session.

The veteran artiste is currently working on a new album.

The décor for the venue was themed in the entertainer’s signature colour of blue.

She, too, wore a flashy blue, silver and brown dress with a blue wig and silver Christian Louboutin heels.

Mirror 25 marks Spice her 25th anniversary in music and features collaborations with Ky-Mani Marley, Busta Rhymes, Lola Brooke, Patoranking, Chronic Law, Jada Kingdom, and Pamputtae.

Artiste Pamputtae, in support of her dancehall sister, said: “You see when me and you talk, and when mi deh beside you, a one different energy. A just love you show mi… Mi just want tell yuh seh mi proud of you; continue to do it, ‘cause guess what? A Grammy next.”

Meanwhile, Jada Kingdom said that the collaboration is a “dream come true”.

Spice also took the opportunity to hail some veteran acts who have helped to mould her. These included Bounty Killer, Cham, Professor Nuts, and Vybz Kartel.

The Jamaica Observer was also presented with an honorary plaque for the company’s support of Spice’s career over the last 25 years.
