CIBC Caribbean donates $2m for Hurricane Beryl relief efforts
CIBC Caribbean, through its ComTrust Foundation, has donated $2 million to Salvation Army to support hurricane relief efforts in Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl. The official handover ceremony took place recently at Salvation Army’s headquarters in Kingston.
This contribution is for aiding communities in need and helping to rebuild the lives of those affected by Hurricane Beryl. The funds will be directed towards providing critical support to individuals and families impacted by the hurricane, including through the donation of emergency supplies, providing shelter, and rendering assistance in rebuilding homes, CIBC said.
In addition to the financial donation, the CIBC Caribbean team actively participated in the relief efforts by helping to package relief goods for shipping to the most-affected areas.
“Our hearts go out to the people of Jamaica who have been affected by Hurricane Beryl,” said Nigel Holness, managing director, CIBC Caribbean Jamaica.
“Through our ComTrust Foundation we are dedicated to helping communities recover and rebuild after such devastating events. Partnering with the Salvation Army allows us to extend our support to those who need it most, ensuring that they receive the necessary aid during this difficult time.”
Salvation Army, known for its long-standing commitment to providing humanitarian aid, will use the donation to bolster its ongoing efforts in the hardest-hit areas. The organisation has been at the forefront of disaster relief in Jamaica, providing crucial support to those in dire need.
“We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation from CIBC Caribbean,” said Colonel Edward Lyons. “This contribution will significantly enhance our capacity to respond to the needs of those affected by Hurricane Beryl. With CIBC Caribbean’s support we will be able to provide immediate relief and long-term assistance to help families and communities recover and rebuild.”
CIBC Caribbean’s ComTrust Foundation has a long history of supporting charitable initiatives across the region, focusing on areas such as education, health, and disaster relief.
