Bayka rocks Sound Check
Dancehall artiste Bayka delivered a mixed bag of treats to fans during his performance at Thursday night’s staging of Sound Check.
Held at Dubwise on Lady Musgrave Road in Kingston, Sound Check saw a large turnout of patrons comprising mostly college students and young professionals.
As he took the stage minutes after 10:00 pm, Bayka immediately went to work, delivering a workmanlike performance.
“I promise you all a good time tonight. I’m pouring my heart out in this performance, and I hope you enjoy,” Bayka declared before launching into the hit song Mobster.
But it wasn’t all about songs for the thugs, there were mellow moments for the ladies and, of course, the party songs.
Top Tier, Bruck it Off, and 1Uptown had the females going wild.
The appearance of his fellow Spanish Town native, Govana, sent the crowd into a musical overdrive.
During his set, Bayka paid homage to his mother for making him into the man that he has become. And, in a post-performance interview with the Jamaica Observer, he shared that his mother has been supportive of his career choice.
“Nothing weh yuh see a happen couldn’t happen without her. Her prayers and dem ting deh, her guidance. She always keeps me focused along with the other members of the team,” said Bayka.
A former student of the Ardenne High School who matriculated to sixth form at Wolmer’s Boys’, Bayka also studied at The University of the West Indies.
As an artiste he exploded onto the music scene in late 2021.
Bayka described the Sound Check format and experience as great.
“The experience was awesome. Earlier on I couldn’t even find words, but now mi can say mi feel proud. I was excited when the organisers reached out because I had just recently gotten my own personal band, and we were working together before. So when we heard about this event we had more confidence going in,” he explained.
“Words can’t describe the support here tonight. I couldn’t disappoint dem people ya weh a support mi. Dem a look forward to Bayka seeing his true potential,” he continued.
