US daycare owner facing endangerment charges after kids ingest marijuana gummies
ARKANSAS, United States – The owner of an in-home daycare in Arkansas has reportedly been charged with two counts of introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another after police say two children allegedly consumed marijuana gummies at her establishment.
According to a report from KYTV, an NBC affiliate, in addition to the substance charge, the 58-year-old woman is also facing two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
Citing state court records, KYTV says the parents of a two-year-old girl noticed their daughter was acting ‘off’ after picking her up from the woman’s daycare back in April. Following a hospital visit, lab results indicated that the child had marijuana in her system.
The parents, who said they did not have marijuana in their home, reportedly added that the daycare owner did not have their permission to give their daughter medication without parental consent.
Days later, the parents of a 15-month-old boy said their child was also exhibiting similar behaviour. He was also reportedly tested. His blood results also reportedly came back positive for marijuana. The parents also reportedly revealed they did not have marijuana in their home.
According to the KYTV article, the woman revealed in subsequent interviews with the authorities that she stored her THC gummies in her kitchen area. The location was reportedly being accessed by the children.
