KINGSTON, Jamaica – It has been eight years since reggae artiste Warrior King released a full-length album. That drought will be broken in the first quarter of 2025, when the singjay, known for hits such as Virtuous Woman and Never Go Where Pagans Go, releases his sixth album.

Titled Resurgence, the nine-track album will feature two collaborations.

In an interview with Observer Online on Tuesday, Warrior King gave an insight into the forthcoming project.

“Resurgence will make music lovers know that I’m here to stay and a force  to be reckoned with. It will also show my versatility and bring about a fresh sounding Warrior King that even the youth can relate to as well. My music will always be positive, empowering, inspirational, educational and entertaining,” Warrior King explained.

He also shared that he has grown musically since his last project.

“My growth and development will be obvious because anything that doesn’t grow or develop will become extinct. My writing skills and my vocal control have improved immensely and I’m more instrumental in the creative process of my music production,” he said.

Resurgence is led by the first single Once Strangers, a song that was inspired by the relationship he has with his wife Lesley.

“Once Strangers was inspired by the love I have for my wife and how we met. It’s like nostalgia and at the same time appealing to husbands to love their wives more and vice versa. Black love is beautiful,” the artiste reasoned.

Warrior King emerged on the music scene with the chart-topping Virtuous Woman in 2001, which spent nine weeks at #1 on local charts. His subsequent hits include Breath of Fresh Air, Never Go Where Pagans Go, Hold Da Faith and Can’t Get Me Down.

Over the period that he has been on the music scene, much has changed as it relates to technology and the marketing of music. When asked how he has been able to adapt to the changes, Warrior King said, “I came from the analog era where we used cassettes, vinyl and CDs to promote music. But now with the internet and globalisation with social media it has made it much easier to keep the fans across the globe updated with what is going on in my career.”

Warrior King’s previous albums are Virtuous Woman (2002), Hold the Faith (2005), Love is in the Air (2009), Tell Mi How Mi Sound (2011) and The Rootz Warrior (2016).

He said one of the major highlights of his career was the recognition that he received from former US President, Barack Obama.

“I have experienced many highlights along the journey thus far, but the highlight which resonates with me the most was when the former president of the United States of America Barack Obama made mention of I, Warrior King to be one of his favourite reggae artistes,” he said.
