Roman closes gap in jockeys’ championship race with four-win haul

The 2024 jockeys’ championship title race heated up on Sunday’s nine-race card as Raddesh Roman booted home four winners to narrow Tevin Foster’s lead to just one win.

Roman’s impressive day was highlighted by his victory in the $1.25-million Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup feature.

Aboard Press Conference, trained by Ian Roberts, Roman came from behind to edge out
Joy Is Golden (Samantha Fletcher) by a neck in the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over the straight course at five furlongs (1,000m).
Taurus Boy (Richard Henry) secured third place, with a final time of 59.0.

Roman’s other winners included Noble Impulse (second race) for trainer Steven Todd,
Tiffany Blu (fourth race) for trainer Gary Crawford, and Bad Investment for owner/trainer Oral Hayden.

With these victories, Roman took his tally to 109 wins, just shy of Foster’s 110. Foster managed only one win on the day, partnering with
Immeasurable Joy for trainer Anthony Nunes in the fifth race.

Roman’s exceptional skill and determination have revitalised his championship aspirations, sending a clear message to Foster. The reigning leader now faces a rejuvenated challenger, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion.

As the championship hangs in the balance, fans can expect an intense battle between Roman and Foster for the remaining of the season.

The stage is set for an electrifying duel between Foster and Roman, as both riders have secured eight mounts each on today’s nine-race programme. First post is at noon.
