Jamaica’s Rachel Scott wins coveted American Womenswear Designer of the Year award

Jamaican-born fashion designer Rachel Scott, who fronts the New York-based label Diotima, won American Womenswear Designer of the Year at the 2024 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards on Monday night.

Scott won the coveted award ahead of other nominees and industry veterans Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler, Thom Browne and Tory Burch.

The cocktail, dinner and awards ceremony at the American Museum of Natural History was hosted by Academy Award-nominated actress and songwriter Cynthia Erivo.

According to Yahoo, since Diotima’s inception, Scott has gained a strong and steady following for her authentic, inclusive and nuanced vision of Caribbean style through tailoring, knit dressing and sportswear with artisanal, handcrafted details, worn by Angel Reese, Ayesha Curry, Aurora James and more.

Last year, she reportedly won the CFDA Awards’ Shop With Google American Emerging Designer of the Year award after launching her womenswear label just three years ago.
