MG Jamaica launches MG ZS and MG4 EV

In October when Lennekia Barrett saw an advertisement on Instagram for the MG ZS SUV she immediately fell in love with the vehicle. Having acquired the vehicle three weeks ago, she is enjoying every moment of it.

“It drives very comfortably and, trust me, the price is reasonable. It’s also very manageable and it has really exceeded my expectations and more,” Barrett told
Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine in an interview at the launch of the MG ZS and MG 4EV on Friday, November 15, at the newly opened MG Jamaica showroom on Old Hope Road.

MG Jamaica operates under the banner of Jamaica’s leading automotive company, ATL Automotive, the exclusive dealer for MG in Jamaica, adding to the company’s already diverse portfolio of automotive brands.

Today, MG is the fastest-growing car brand in the UK, with its practical and spacious, packed with technology and perfect for modern life.

Industry veteran Jodi Mendez, sales manager at MG Jamaica, shared: “The MG has reliability; it has a renowned name, and persons know it from back in the day when it was privately imported into the country. ATL Automotive decided we had to get MG in Jamaica, and it has already found its place here. To date we have delivered 15 vehicles since we opened in October. It’s here and its going to take over the Jamaican market.”

Christopher DaCosta, general manager for MG Jamaica, gave a breakdown of the features of both the MG ZS and MG 4EV.

“The MG ZS has three different spec levels — the comfort, the deluxe and the deluxe plus. They are all automatic and have driver assistance features, and a 360-degree camera. The premium package ZS deluxe plus has a 1.3-liter turbo engine, panoramic sunroof, and a host of features that are really useful for the passenger. The comfort and the deluxe are both 1.5 litre naturally aspirated engines. The MG 4EV comes in two levels; one has a 151-kilowatt battery and is a two-wheel drive, and the other has 64- kilowatt and is an all-wheel drive,” DaCosta explained.

Asked about the reliability factor of the MG, DaCosta said: “The MG has been released in other markets around the world and the reliability factor has been phenomenal so far on the road, based on the reports we are getting from them. The value that these vehicles offer in terms of price for what you’re getting is absolutely unbelievable. It is one of the very best-selling cars in England right now.”

The MG ZS is a sub-compact SUV, and it competes with several vehicles already on the market locally.

“It’s just tremendous value and I would encourage anyone in the market to get a new car, don’t get it without test driving one of these cars. We would have sold a lot more had we had more stock on the ground. So, yes, the reception has been excellent. I’m actually not surprised; we the best-priced SUV, the lowest monthly payment SUV, and the most comprehensive warranty [7 years],” DaCosta added.
