Sunshine Girls shine bright: Jamaica takes Horizon Series 2-1

KINGSTON, Jamaica— In a thrilling display of netball prowess, Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls defeated the England Roses 61-53 in the fourth and final game of the Horizon Series on Tuesday, securing a 2-1 series victory.

After falling behind 0-1 in the England leg, the Sunshine Girls rebounded in style on home soil, winning the first match 50-49 at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Monday.

They carried that momentum into the final game, producing a dominant performance to take the series.

Romelda Aiken-George led the way for Jamaicans with 40 goals from 43 attempts while Shanice Beckford netted 21 from 25.

For England, Liv Tchine scored 42 goals from 47 attempts and Louis Pearson got 11 from 13.

England sprinted to an early lead, at point dominating the game 8-3, however, the Sunshine Girls closed the gap at end of the first quarter at 15-11 in favour of the Roses.

The Sunshine Girls shone bright in the second quarter, tying the game at 21-21 before taking it 28-26 at the half break.

Third quarter was a thriller as both teams exchanged mighty blows. The Sunshine Girls edge ahead in the heated battle 42-39.

The Sunshine Girls sealed the deal in a thrilling finale 61-53.
