Mt Pleasant and Arnett win 1-0 to start second round of JPL

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Leaders Mt Pleasant FA and Arnett Gardens scored 1-0 wins over Portmore United and Dunbeholden respectively as the second round of the Jamaica Premier League got underway on Sunday.

Mt Pleasant and Arnett Gardens both repeated first round wins over their opponents.

Shaquille Bradford scored Mt Pleasant’s winner in the 41st minute as the St Ann team won their fifth straight game, extending their unbeaten run to seven games and improved to 31 points.

Arnett Gardens meanwhile rebounded from their loss to Mt Pleasant last match day by edging Dunbeholden thanks to a 15th minute goal from Kimani Arbouine. The win saw Arnett remain in second place on 30 points.

In the meantime, defending champions Cavalier FC snapped a two-game winless run by beating Humble Lion 3-1 in the second game of a double header at Stadium East. With the win, Cavalier moved to third place on goal-difference over Waterhouse, both on 26 points.

Shaquille Stein gave Cavalier the lead after 34 minutes but Humble Lion drew level five minutes later when Jay Jameison equalised.

Kaile Auvray restored Cavalier FC’s lead in the 69th minute when his shot was deflected off a Humble Lion defender, and Jalmaro Calvin secured the full points when he added a third in the 80th minute.

Waterhouse FC were held 1-1 by Racing United at Ferdie Neita Park. Waterhouse went ahead in the 46th minute when Atapharoy Bygrave scored his sixth goal of the season but Racing United earned a share of the points when Andrew Campbell equalised in the 77th minute.

Tivoli Gardens got the better of Molynes United 2-0 in the opening game at Stadium East thanks to goals from Barrington Pryce in the 13th minute and Horatio Morgan in the 36th minute.
Promoted Chapelton Maroons beat Harbour View for the second time this season, edging them 1-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Complex thanks to a 56th minute goal from Javell Ellis.
