Five judges sworn in to higher office

KINGSTON, Jamaica- Five judges were sworn in to higher service at King’s House on Monday.

The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Governor General Steadman Fuller.

Justice Kissock Laing was appointed judge of the Court of Appeal.

Among the other four judges appointed to act in higher office is Justice Georgiana Fraser, who moved up from puisne judge to acting judge of the Court of Appeal, which takes effect on January 13.

She will be acting in the place of Justice Almarie Sinclair Hayne.

Justice Fraser will be replaced by Justice Opal Smith effective January 13, and will continue until further orders.

Justice Tracey-Ann Johnson will act in place of Justice Althea Jarrett who is on vacation leave. This takes effect on January 7, and will continue until April 10, 2025.

Justice Christine McNeil will act as master in chambers in place of Justice Stephany C Orr, effective January 7, and will continue in that post until April 10, 2025.
