KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament (MP) for St Ann South East, Lisa Hanna says she is deeply saddened by the heartbreaking news of the tragic fire that claimed the lives of three children in Walkerswood, St Ann on Sunday.

Hanna said she was devastated to receive the shocking news earlier.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy that weighs heavily on our community. It is incredibly painful to come to terms with the loss of these innocent lives. My sincere sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with the families affected during this unfathomably difficult time. I wish we could have been there to help them find safety and I want to extend my gratitude to the community members and firefighters who did everything within their power under such challenging circumstances,” Hanna said.

Reflecting on the recent series of devastating incidents, Hanna pointed out that this marks the second tragic fire in just weeks in St Ann South East, following an earlier tragedy in Claremont.

She emphasised the importance of community unity during this time of need, urging everyone to come together and support one another.

Hanna said the constituency’s leadership stands united and is committed to helping the bereaved family navigate this difficult journey. She further thanked her colleague MP for St Ann North East, Matthew Samuda for his prompt intervention.

“I want to also thank Minister Samuda who I have been in contact with, who is my colleague MP to the north for his intervention. He knew I’m actually away and he was on the scene and has pledged his support to the community, to us, as the leadership of the constituency, he has spoken to the prime minister already and whatever counselling services or anything that we need he is ready to support and provide help and I really want to say thank you to him,” she said.

Hanna also extended her gratitude to the Councillor of the Moneague Division, Lloyd Garrick, the executive members of her constituency and other community members for their efforts.

“This is a time when we all have to unite in the best interest of supporting this family and just walking through together,” she said.

“For the start of the year, this is not something that we wanted to deal with but we are strong. My prayers and my thoughts right now are with the family members, with the community and I express my deepest sympathy and I’m just heartbroken and in deep sadness,” Hanna added.
