Known for his gritty songs that focus on the pursuit of riches and success, Overproof Records recording artiste Rich23 has embraced his softer side with his latest single, Secret, which was released this week.

The smooth song is a textbook example of a lovestruck male as he navigates the pitfalls of love, eventually abandoning his quintessential player role for the total dedication of appreciating and protecting his lady. Industry insiders say the song is a bonafide club banger.

“It’s a song about the evolution of love, the realization that she is his everything,” the artiste, whose given name is Christopher Junior Drummond, said.

“The song represents the natural ebb and flow of a relationship, the ups and downs, the insecurities, the arguments, the petty problems that can pop up, the complications and the secrets that can sometimes poison a relationship. That’s why mi say no secrets,” Rich23 added.

The song, produced by Overproof Records, features the usual clarity and high production values for which the Montego Bay-based independent label is known to deliver.

Chief executive officer of the label, Asa ‘Ace’ Smith, summed it up in three words: “Believe and know.”

Rich23 grew up in Coral Gardens, Montego Bay, where he attended Spot Valley High School. He developed a passion for music at a fairly young age.

He wrote his first song, Go Harder, at the age of 12, but it was never officially released. During his teenage years, he adopted the moniker Rich23, and a community legend was born.

Rich23’s legend began to grow in his community because of his high-energy performances and natural charisma. He eventually inked a recording contract with Overproof Records Ltd, which began to produce his tracks.

There are plans to drop Rich23’s first six-track EP, Forever Rich, later this year.
