MBU rebound against Molynes in Jamaica Premier League
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Montego Bay United (MBU) rebounded to beat Molynes United 2-0 in their second round of the Jamaica Premier League game on Monday at the Anthony Spaulding Complex and retook second position on the points tables.
Second-half goals from Jourdain Fletcher, his first of the season, and Shaniel Thomas saw MBU rebound from last week’s loss to Arnett Gardens at the same venue and moved ahead of Arnett on goal-difference, both on 37 points.
In the second game of the doubleheader, defending champions Cavalier FC came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Racing United who had upset them in the first round.
In the first game, Fletcher who returned to the former champions after the start of the competition, finished off a smart move from Thomas, deftly scooping the ball over the head of goalkeeper Darren Donaie at his near right post in the 46th minute.
Thomas was well placed five minutes later to poke a cross from Darnell Hospedales between two defenders and past Donaie to double the lead, scoring his seventh goal of the season.
Fourth-placed Cavalier FC failed to cut into the deficit between themselves and MBU and Arnett Gardens when they were held by Racing United who edged ahead of Vere United on goal difference into 10th place, both on 17 points.
To add salt to their wounds, Cavalier FC lost striker Dwayne Atkinson in the first half when he was taken off the field on a stretcher after he was injured.
Tajay Grant gave Racing United the lead in the 27th minute but Richard King salvaged a point for Cavalier FC when he scored from a goalmouth melee in the 76th minute.
