KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) says it is making progress in addressing deplorable roads through its push over the last three weeks to repair major corridors across the island.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that patching works have been completed in various locations across the island including sections of Spanish Town Road, Mannings Hill Road, East Kings House Road and Hope Road in St Andrew.

The roads from Barnett to Adelphi in St James, Wakefield to Hampden in Trelawny and Green Island to Negril in Hanover have also benefitted under the programme.

Shaw says that the NWA intends to patch several other roads across the country over the next five weeks to include main and parochial roads. These include in Westmoreland, the stretch from Negril to Little London, the road from Glasgow to Grange and from Dundee to Pisgah. Several corridors in St Mary, Manchester, Clarendon, St Thomas and St Ann are also being targeted for repairs.

Motorists are being advised to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons in using the targeted roads.

The works are being done through the government’s special allocation for main roads under the Relief Emergency Assistance and Community Help (REACH) programme.
