Mt Pleasant beat Cavalier FC for 10th consecutive win in JPL
ST ANN, Jamaica – Mt Pleasant FA tied a premier league record with their 10th straight victory on Thursday when they beat defending champions Cavalier FC 3-0 at Drax Hall.
The Theadore Whitmore-coached Mt Pleasant tied the record held by Arnett Gardens as they cruised to 46 points, six clear of second-placed Montego Bay United who came from a goal down at half to beat Humble Lion 3-1 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Meanwhile, Arnett Gardens were held 0-0 by Molynes United while 10-man Racing United beat Tivoli Gardens 2-0.
At Drax Hall, the Mt Pleasant machine kept rolling as they handed Cavalier FC to a third loss, the defending champions remaining in sixth place on 32 points.
Jahshaun Anglin gave the home team the lead in the 10th minute, Daniel Green added a second in the 25th minute before Franco Celestin scored in the 77th minute to cement the win.
In Montego Bay, Shaniel Thomas bagged a second half double as Montego Bay United scored three times in the final 18 minutes plus time added to beat Humble Lion for the first time this season.
Stephen Barrett had given Humble Lion the lead against the run of play in the 33rd minute and, despite slowing down the game in the second half, the home team roared back to snatch three goals in a dramatic finish.
Minutes after missing an easy chance, Thomas tapped in the equaliser in the 72nd minute, then headed Montego Bay United into the lead seven minutes later. Daniel Reid, who was a 89th minute substitute, added a third with his second touch of the game, curling a left-footer part goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel in time added.
Racing United snapped a nine-game winless run with a win over Tivoli Gardens. Tajay Grant scored in the 26th minute, his third straight game with a goal, while Nickyle Ellis doubled the advantage in the 29th minute.
Racing United played most of the game with 10 players after Carlyle Holmes was sent off in the 41st minute.
