Sandals Foundation bolsters services at Negril Branch Library with new printer

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Sandals Foundation has enhanced the services provided by the Negril Branch Library in Westmoreland with the donation of a state-of-the-art printer.

The foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International, said in a media release that the donation of the printer was in response to a critical request for improved technology to support the community, as the library serves as a source for students, job seekers, and the general public.

The Negril Branch Library, Sandals Foundation said, serves as a vital resource as it offers educational materials, digital access and various literacy programmes.

However, limited resources have made it difficult to provide high-quality printing services for the many individuals who depend on the library’s support, the foundation said.

“This new printer will make a world of difference to the individuals who rely on our resources,” said Nordia Miller-Gray, senior librarian at the Westmoreland Parish Library.

“It’s more than just a piece of equipment – it represents access to education, opportunity, and a brighter future. The library is a hub for the community, and now we can better support the needs of our patrons, whether for school projects, job applications, or personal development. This gift will truly inspire hope in so many lives,” Miller-Gray added.

As for Heidi Clarke, executive director of the Sandals Foundation, assisting the library was not an option.

“Libraries continue to be the cornerstone for education and access to the key digital services for many rural communities in this island. When we learned of the Negril Branch Library’s challenges, we knew we had to step in. This printer represents a bridge that will help students and adults meet their needs,” said Clarke.

Aaliyah Cunningham, regional public relations manager for Sandals and Beaches Negril Resorts and Spas, echoed this sentiment, noting the importance of corporate social responsibility in making a tangible difference.

“This donation is part of our ongoing efforts to support the communities where we operate. It’s a reflection of our belief that investing in community infrastructure is one of the most powerful ways to build stronger, more resilient communities,” Cunningham added.
