Kishane Thompson and Tia Clayton win 60m in Astana

Jamaicans Kishane Thompson and Tia Clayton were winners in their respective 60m finals at Saturday’s Astana Indoor Meet for Amin Tuyakov Prizes – the opening World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting of 2025 – in the Kazakh capital.

Thompson, who was making his indoor debut, ran 6.56 seconds to win the men’s final ahead of Oman’s Ali Anwar Ali Al Balushi in 6.60 seconds and Japan’s Shuhei Tada who was third in 6.62 seconds. Jamaica’s Rohan Watson was eighth in the final in 6.82 seconds.

Thompson had won his semi-final heat in 6.58 seconds with compatriot Michael Thompson placing sixth in 6.89 seconds.

Watson had run 6.80 seconds in his semi-final with Nishion Ebanks sixth in 6.82 seconds.

In the meantime, Tia Clayton won her final in 7.18 seconds, beating Portugal’s Lorene Dorcas Bazolo who finished second in 7.34 seconds, while her sister Tina Clayton took third in 7.36 seconds.

Tia won her semi-final heat running 7.22 seconds and Tina had placed second in her heat in 7.43 seconds.

Kingston-based Barbadian national record holder Sada Williams won final 2 of the women’s 400m, running 53.51 seconds with Janieve Russell placing fourth in 54.37 seconds.

Christoff Bryan cleared 2.10m to place fifth in the men’s high jump that
was won by Puerto Rico’s Luis Castro Rivera in 2.15m.
