Herbert Morrison and Glenmuir share wins in ISSA basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James–Herbert Morrison Technical High and Glenmuir High shared the honours in Thursday’s ISSA rural area basketball quarter-finals played in Montego Bay as Glenmuir eked out a slim one-point victory in the under-16 game but were blown out by 42 points in the under-19 encounter.
Glenmuir came from behind in the junior game to hand Herbert Morrison their first loss of the season, led by a game-high 19 points from Jaden Mafaindi.
Glenmuir, who won 62-61, outscored Herbert Morrison 36-28 in the second half to overcome a seven point deficit at halftime to get their quarterfinal quest off on a positive note.
Herbert Morrison were up 43-35 going into the fourth quarter before Glenmuir High took over with Jamaal Henry scoring 16 points and Daeshawn Smith scoring 12 points to support Mafaindi. Shamar Russell had a double-double for Herbert Morrison, scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds along with two steals;Tyler Linton scored 14 points and Raheem Lynch scored eight points.
However, in the under-19 game, Herbert Morrison romped to an 86-44 win to maintain their unbeaten run with Daniel Clarke recording a double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Herbert Morrison were off to a fast start, scoring eight points before Glenmuir got on the board, and led 24-7 after the first quarter, 42-20 at half time and 70-25 at the end of the third quarter.
D’Aire Patterson scored a game-high 38 points to lead Herbert Morrison while Brandon Brown scored 15 points and eight rebounds.
