DETECTIVES may have to depend on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage to help them solve the gun murder of 12-year-old Kevaughn Ferron and the injuring of his mother on Lindsay Crescent in St Andrew on Friday.

As it currently stands, Ferron’s killing is a mystery, according to Superintendent Randy Sweeny, commanding officer of the St Andrew North Police Division.

“At the time we cannot confirm the motive or any theory for this particular shooting, nonetheless I am asking any member of the public who has any information that can help the police to reach out to the Constant Spring Police Station,” Sweeny said.

Ferron was being driven to school by his mother when the Mercedes Benz motor vehicle the two were travelling in was shot up by a man on a motorcycle.

Ferron sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and his mother was shot in the upper body.

Sweeny pointed out that the attack was carried out around 7:00 am, just as Ferron’s mother brought the Mercedes Benz to a stop in order to obey a traffic light at the intersection of Lindsay Crescent and Dunrobin Avenue. When the vehicle came to a halt at the traffic light, two men on a motorcycle pulled up on them and the pillion rider proceeded to open gunfire at the occupants of the car.

Following the shooting, the motorcycle quickly sped away and headed in the direction of Constant Spring Road.

A relative who was also an occupant of the motor vehicle managed to drive Ferron and his mother to hospital. Upon arrival at hospital, Ferron was pronounced dead while his mother was admitted.

One man, who is employed to a business establishment in the vicinity of where the shooting occurred, pointed out to the Jamaica Observer that the events unfolded so quickly, not many people in the area were even aware that such a serious incident took place.

Another man who works in the area said that cops have expressed interest in viewing CCTV footage from cameras near the location.

“The police have visited premises in the area to see if CCTV footage can produce any leads,” the source shared, pointing that numerous business establishments operate in the vicinity of where the shooting occurred and it is very likely that cameras captured potentially valuable evidence that could help bring the perpetrators to justice.
