Residents protest police killing of groundsman on Mountain View Avenue
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Residents of Mountain View Avenue in St Andrew are now protesting the fatal shooting of a groundsman at his home by police officers on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Erick Shakespeare.
It is reported that officers entered Shakespeare’s home after knocking and receiving no response. According to the police, Shakespeare pointed a gun at officers and was then fatally shot by the lawmen.
The incident has since triggered protests across the community and resulted in sections of Mountain View Avenue being blocked off.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and seek alternate routes to minimise inconvenience.
The police apologised for the disruption and encouraged motorists to follow the directions of the traffic management personnel on location to ensure a safe and orderly flow of traffic.
