KINGSTON, Jamaica – Six people were killed in traffic crashes between Saturday and Sunday, pushing the death toll on the nation’s roads to 30 since the start of the year.

The deaths have resulted from 28 fatal crashes according to the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) in its latest daily traffic crash statistics released on Tuesday.

Of note is that fatalities have increased by 11 per cent when compared to prior year while fatal crashes are up eight per cent.

With 12 deaths, pedestrians are to date the most vulnerable road users in 2025. Six motorcyclists, three pillion passengers, two pedalcyclists and four drivers of private motor cars are also numbered among the fatalities the ITA said. Pedestrians account for 40 per cent of the road deaths while motorcyclists account for 20 per cent.

Vulnerable road users (pedestrians, pedalcyclists, motorcyclists and pillion passengers) account for 77 per cent of the road users killed since the start of the year. Males account for 77 per cent while females account for 23 per cent of the victims.
