SERHA apologises for unauthorised video recordings of patients
KINGSTON, Jamaica- The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is apologising for the circulation of video recordings of patients at the Linstead Hospital on TikTok.
“[We are] aware of unauthorised video recordings taken by a family member who was admitted at the Linstead Hospital, currently circulating on TikTok. We recognise that this incident may have caused distress to those affected, and we extend our deepest apologies to any patient who feels their trust was violated,” SERHA said Monday.
The regional authority maintained that privacy and confidentiality of patients was “of the utmost importance” and described the breach of protocol as a serious violation of patient rights.
SERHA which oversees nine hospitals, assured the public, patients, and their families that the matter is being taken seriously.
“The organisation has reinforced its internal protocols regarding the use of electronic devices within our facilities by posting signage in critical areas, and reminding employees of the device usage protocol.”
“Furthermore, the management of SERHA reminds all staff members of the importance of maintaining strict patient confidentiality. We also encourage patients and their families to report any concerns they may have to the Patient Affairs Department at the institution,” it added.
