Moving on from a relationship is often tough for one of the parties involved. G Cole looks at the consequences of these fractious unions in Forgiven, his latest song.

Produced by Ed Robinson, it was recently released.

“It’s not based on my personal experience, but from conversations I’ve had with friends. It speaks as much to healing, as it does to hurt, forgiveness is not for the forgiven but for the forgiver,” said G Cole. “The song is very focused on forgiveness and how healing it is to forgive, but in a subtle way, it’s focused on the person wanting you back after realising they made the wrong choice, but you proudly and loudly want to let them know that you’ve moved on and are happier where you are now.”

Forgiven is the South Florida-based singer’s first song for 2025. His recent singles include She Said and My Father’s Song.

Unlike some of his friends who are willing to give relationships a second chance, G Cole believes couples should heed the warning signs when something is not meant to be.

“I’ve definitely had people from my past try to revisit a relationship, but once I’ve moved on, I’ve moved on, no interest in going backwards. Imagine how silly I would feel being in my second season of the same miserable relationship,” he stated.

Forgiven is expected to be part of G Cole’s fourth album, scheduled for release this summer. This Music Volume I — Return To Vintage, G Cole’s first album, was released in 2007.

Six years later came Ocho Rios, his second album which was a nod to his hometown.

As a youth, G Cole was weaned on the music of Dennis Brown who remains his biggest influence as a vocalist.
