The family of dancehall artiste Lisa Hyper says the entertainer has been making “steady progress” as she receives treatment after suffering a mental episode that dominated social media headlines in February.

“We’re grateful to share that Lisa is making steady progress in her recovery. It’s been a challenging time, but with God’s grace, the care of her medical team, the love and support from her father, myself and close friends, she is getting better each day,” Tasha Gooden, Lisa Hyper’s sister, said in a statement this week.

The Soul Cry singer is currently undergoing treatment at the University Hospital of the West Indies. She has been in the facility for the last two weeks.

Gooden thanked her sister’s fans and well-wishers for “your prayers, and every kind word, and encouragement.”

“It has truly made a difference, and we appreciate each and every one and fellow artistes who have reached out, checked in, and lifted her up in prayer,” Gooden said. “Please continue to keep her in your thoughts as she continues her healing journey. We are trusting in God’s perfect plan and looking forward to seeing her fully restored soon.”

The entertainer had experienced several apparent manic episodes which played out on social media in recent weeks. Her rants rankled prominent members of the entertainment community, some of whom have unfollowed her on social media.

She was arrested and charged with assault in February after an incident at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

Lisa Hyper, known as the ‘First Lady of Gaza’, was a major figure in Vybz Kartel’s Portmore Empire. She is known for songs such as Amazing, Money Don’t Sleep, Sculpture and Nuh Frighten.

Her most recent songs include Soul Cry, where she addresses her mental health issues, and her brash collaboration, Altitude, featuring Shawn Storm.
