KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) is advising the public that a full-scale aerodrome emergency exercise simulation will be conducted at the airport on Thursday, March 13, 2025 between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

The exercise will simulate an aircraft incident on airport property to test the emergency response and management system of the NMIA and its emergency response partners.

The exercise will also evaluate the effectiveness of the airport’s emergency response system in coordination with its mutual aid partners and other primary response agencies.

“These exercises are crucial to ensure our team and emergency response partners are fully prepared to handle any potential incidents. By regularly testing our emergency protocols, we maintain the highest safety standards for all passengers and workers at Norman Manley International Airport,” said Theresa Benjamin, director of operations at PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL) which manages the airport.

“The simulation will involve multiple emergency response agencies working together as they would during an actual emergency and will help us to identify strengths and any areas for improvement in our current emergency protocols,” she continued.

Motorists are advised to proceed with caution as there will be increased emergency vehicle traffic on airport grounds and major roadways leading to and from the NMIA as part of this simulated emergency scenario.

Airport users and the surrounding community are also encouraged to remain calm and continue their normal activities while the simulation is in progress.
