Messi not in starting lineup for Inter Miami vs Cavalier

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Lionel Messi is not in Inter Miami’s starting lineup against Cavalier FC in their second-leg Concacaf Champions Cup match at the National Stadium in Kingston on Thursday night.

He was, however, listed among the substitutes before the 7pm (Jamaica time) kickoff.

The Argentine football superstar and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has missed the last several matches with Inter Miami, including the 2-0 midweek home win over Cavalier in the first leg of the last-16 tie against the Jamaicans, as the club manages his work load as a precaution against injury.

A capacity-filled 35,000 people are expected to fill the National Stadium for the match as locals have turned out in droves to possibly see the football icon play in Jamaica for the first time.
