Kingston, Jamaica – The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information has expressed sadness at the passing of Owen James who it describes as a “distinguished journalist and revered figure in the world of business news broadcasting”.

James, believed to be in his mid-70s, passed away March 13, “leaving behind a legacy of excellence in journalism that spanned several decades,” the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

“For many years, Mr James was the trusted voice of TVJ’s ‘Business Day,’ where his insightful coverage and analytical reporting made a significant impact on the way business news was presented in Jamaica,” the ministry noted.

It also noted that he began his career as a reporter at the Gleaner Company, and later served as editor of the Star, where he honed his skills and established a reputation for journalistic integrity and professionalism. In his later years, James ventured into independent broadcasting, founding his own company, “All Media Six,” where he continued to inform and engage the public with his expertise.

Education Minister, Senator Dana Morris Dixon, expressed her condolences, stating, “Owen James was more than just a broadcaster; he was a guiding light in the world of business journalism.

His commitment to truth and clarity in reporting inspired many and served as a benchmark for others in the industry. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

His contributions will not be forgotten, and he will be missed by all who knew and worked with him.”
